Our first visitor: Oma Bev

The last week has been very exciting as we prepare for a visit from Grandma (Oma-German) Bev. We spent all last week cleaning and getting things ready for our first guest! We greeted her at the airport in Nurnburg (Nuremberg-English) and surprised her by arranging with a dear friend, Karin Brudy-Pfister and her 3 boys to be there too. Karin is the daughter of Heidi and Hans Brudny, the family my Mom and Dad lived with while stationed in Heidelberg during the Vietnam War. The afternoon was full of memories, tears, and great fellowship as we caught up over lunch; it has been 6 years since Mom and Karin have seen one another, and almost 20 years since I have seen Karin. Hunter and I were able to meet Karin's boys for the first time, Sebastian, Jonathan, and Florian. This was a great way to celebrate Mom's birthday, the next day.
Since Oma arrived we have been on the go, showing her our new life and surroundings. She loves the German Backerei (bakery) and markets. We took her on Post and introduced her to many of our friends as we gave her the "grand tour". It has been great to have her around to help us get some things done around the house. She has loved spending all this time with Hunter and introducing us to her favorite German foods.
We had a little bit of an emergency this week. Hunter had gotten significantly sick for the first time. I tried calling a German Doctor, but could not get a hold of anyone. I took him next door to my neighbor who works at the health clinic and she was going to see what she could do the next day. We took him to the health clinic on Post, where God hooked us up with the nicest Physician's Assistant that was willing to do anything to help Hunter and us. Upon the visit we discovered Hunter has a sinus infection, ear infection, eye infection (conjuctivitis-pink eye), and is possibly teething. The PA said he was most likely in a lot of pain. He is now on 4 different types of medicine and is beginning to get his energy back. Please pray for our boy.
Chris had a Teen Town Hall meeting this week that went well. Here he announced the opening of the Coffee House and the Summer Camp trip in June. The kids were excited to hear about the activities and many were anxious to get involved. Last Sunday, Chris had some teens talk abou their experience from the Slovokia Service Project. Things are going well and we are beginning to prepare for next school year.
