Phenomenons of Germany
This weekend we have experienced TWO phenomenons of life in Germany.
First, sports outside the U.S.:

The World Cup Fussball (soccer) Championship began on Friday night in Munich, with Germany playing Croatia; Germany won 4-2. I am not sure there is really a comparison...let's just say, fanatical. They take Fussball very serious here. It has been amazing to watch the build up to such an International Event...everything is soccerballs...soccerball sushi, cheese, chocolate, jerseys, glasses, lights, carpets, sheets and so on; it is an extravaganza of soccer things. This next month will be an exciting one.
Second, Junking:

We have been told about this phenomenon numerous times. It is where German's clear out junk or just stuff that is even in good shape and place it on the curb to be taken away. This used to be a great way to gather many antiques. We have been told this is done because of taxation; German's are taxed on whatever they own, so they minimalize their household's once or twice a year to reduce the amount they must pay in taxes.
Last night our town had junking. So, Ashely, I (Meaghan), and my American neighbor Dawn, went out on the town for over an hour looking through peoples "junk". We each had some great finds. I was able to get some end tables (in great shape) and lamps that need new shades (I left the old one's on for the picture and the effect. We found a old toboggan sled to use as decoration and more. It was quite exciting! We look forward to the next "Junking Event".
