Moment of Truth

Yesterday, we went to Dachau. Words can't explain the emotions that one feels when they witness the account of what happened in these concentration camps during WWII. The weather, which was cold and rainy, matched the overall mood of the day. You can't really prepare yourself for an experience like this. The students were definitely moved and the ride to the hotel was quiet.

Today, we got up and bought a Bayern ticket. We could travel anywhere in Bavaria for the day. So, I convinced the kids to head down to Garmisch and do the gorge hike. It really is breathe taking and the students agreed. Once at the very top of the gorge, one of the students complained of not feeling good. I didn't think much of it, because they don't drink that much and with all the hiking, it could be that simple. I gave him my water and thought that would do the trick. However, once we got back down through the gorge, he had bumps all over his body. He was having an allergic reaction. For those familiar with where we were, it is two miles down just to try to get help. Fortunately, he was having no problems breathing, so it was definitely isolated to his skin reacting. By the time we found the hospital, he was already starting to get his color back and the bumps were receding. However, it gave us all a little scare and we remembered what is really important. Parents, please don't worry, he is fine. However, please continue to pray as we hit the home stretch. Tomorrow, we head to the Czech Republic for three days of a service project. Thanks for your prayers, they are being heard.

Chris
