A New Town
Today, we went to a town I had never been to before named Marburg. Our new friends in Mainz recommended the trip and it was well worth it. The town is about an hour north of Frankfurt and only 15 minutes from Giessen (a former US Army installation). The town featured an old cathedral and a really cool castle at the top of the hill. Leading up the hillside was your typical German shops and homes. The walk up was brutal on the cobblestones, but the view was breathe taking. There was even a garden area to the side of the castle full of roses and other flowers.
After a few hours looking around the town, we ate at a gourmet restaurant (accidentally). While the prices were a little higher than we would have liked, the meal was one of the best I have ever had in Germany. After another walk around various parts of the town, we stopped in at another gasthaus and I introduced the students to apfelstruddel. The savored each bite as if it were their last. Then, I explained that we could get it again, in the next two weeks. Smiles came to their faces. Wow, college students are easy these days.
Tomorrow, we are off for the Black Forest near the Swiss border. Please continue to pray for us and our journey. God is showing us much.
Chris
