Paris in a Day

Wow, I knew you could see a lot in one day, but who knew. The college students I am with on the trip aren't the "take in the moment" kind of group. Between the walking pace, always showing up on perfect time at the train stations, we did Notre Dame and the Louvre before lunch. Then, we went to Versailles and through in the Eiffel Tower on the way back to the hotel. We were back in time for dinner! It was fun to see Paris again, but it just confirmed that I'm not a big city guy. I am much more looking forward to returning to the farm lands of Southern Germany.
The best story of the day definitely goes to John (one of the students on the trip). He asks about some of the vendors selling their trinkets around the Eiffel Tower. I tell him that while they are cheap, they can make for a descent souvenir. However, don't give them what they are asking. Start offering back at bare minimum half what they first quote. So, the guy says, I will take 10 euro for this souvenir Eiffel Tower figurine. John acts taken aback by the 10 euro quote. I actually thought he had sold it quite well. So, the street vendor asks him how much he is willing to pay and John says, "How about 10? Needless to say, I couldn't control laughing and it made for quite a scene. By the way, he did wind up buying the figurine.
I will try to keep you posted as we go. Tomorrow is Germany!
